I was looking for something that would help break through the mats and clumps on my 2 kids...a long haired German shepherd and an Alaskan malamute. The brush works great on the Shepherd, but has a difficult time getting all the way through the coat of the Malamute without having to apply more pressure than either of us would like...which makes brushing a bit uncomfortable for the dog and owner as the extra pressure tends to exasperate the pull of each tangle encountered. However, we have both learned that through patience and perseverance, it will get the job done...eventually. The trick is keeping the dog brushed out so the mats and clumps don't reform (duh). I've found that 3-4 brushes a week usually keep the mats and clumps from reforming, but with that being said I would much rather spend that amount of time playing and enjoying my time with the dogs rather than using it for brushing. I'm still looking for the "perfect" brush, but this one is well above average and think it would work like a charm for most (?) long hair dogs.
